Mini Treasures Curriculum

Children’s joy and happiness is a big part of their learning. At Mini Treasures, we encourage them to have fun as a part of their education, allowing them to follow their own interests and adapting activities to ensure all children can participate, no matter their age or development level.

All areas of learning and development, from physical growth to language development to emotional wellbeing, are equally important inter-connected. Recognising this allows us to create a space where children can explore, try new things, and solve problems for themselves, all while our amazing team is there to support them when needed.

Early Years Foundation Stage

Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and all areas of learning and development are equally important and inter-connected. At Mini Treasures we believe in the importance of children having fun and learning through play; in this way they learn to explore, be creative, try new things, solve problems, and to safely manage risks.

At Mini Treasures, children learn and develop well in environments which enable them to learn and explore their individual needs and interests, a strong relationship between practitioners and parents informing their learning. Our classrooms and gardens are designed to be age appropriate and give opportunities for a wide range of planned and free play activities where our children can explore a safe and stimulating environment that values freedom of choice and independence.

At Mini Treasures we have a key worker system in place which supports our children in building positive relationships with both adults and their peers. We provide warm and caring relationships with our children to help them feel safe and settled and work in partnership with parents to inform them on their child’s development.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Children play co-operatively, forming positive relationships with adults and other children. They are confident to speak in a familiar group and take account of one another’s ideas and choose resources they need for their chosen activities.

Children talk about how they and others show feelings, talk about their own and others’ behaviour and its consequences, and know that some behaviour is unacceptable. They adjust their behaviour to different situations, and take changes of routine in their stride.

Physical Development

Children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.

Children know the importance for good health of physical exercise, and a healthy diet, and talk about ways to keep healthy and safe. They manage their own basic hygiene and personal needs successfully, including dressing and going to the toilet independently.

Communication and Language

Children listen attentively in a range of situations. They listen to stories, accurately anticipating key events and respond to what they hear with relevant comments, questions or actions.

Children express themselves effectively, showing awareness of listeners’ needs. They use past, present, and future forms accurately when talking about events that have happened or are to happen in the future. They develop their own narratives and explanations by connecting ideas or events.

Literacy

Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Mathematics

Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer.

Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns.

Understanding the World

Children talk about past and present events in their own lives and in the lives of family members. They know about similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families, communities, and traditions.

They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes.

Children recognise that a range of technology is used in places such as homes and schools. They select and use technology for particular purposes.

Expressive Arts and Design

Children sing songs, make music, dance, and experiment with ways of changing them. They safely use and explore a variety of materials, tools and techniques, experimenting with colour, design, texture, form, and function.

Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play, and stories.

OUR STAFF

Selected and hand - picked by our Executive Director MommyC, is a mix of teachers with various backgrounds and education levels who hold one quality; PASSION. MommyC has found, over the years, that variety is the solution to a balanced environment. One belief of hers is to select teachers who love children and everything else can be easily taught and trained. Staff undergo at minimum 80 hours of on-the-job training initially, amongst on-going training monthly at their regularly scheduled team meetings. Although many of our staff hold CDA certifications, are currently in school to obtain it, or have many years of experience; it is not the sole criteria for selection. MommyC has found that you can have a teacher with all of the education necessary and criteria to obtain the job (8 different certifications required), but none of the compassion or skill to maintain the job. It is her endeavor to always select the best staff available for the right environment and consistently choose those who ultimately have care for children as their primary focus. It's no wonder our families have reported that our school is the best they've found because we strategically select those who make up our education and loving environment. Some of our staff members are pictured below.
